Calla’s Kitty Kingdom Featured on PHL17: Helping More Cats Get Seen
BarkHop Studio, Calla’s Critter Rescue and Maddie’s Castle recently visited PHL17 to share the story behind Calla’s Kitty Kingdom, a new adoption space helping local cats get seen and find homes. Watch the full PHL17 interview here.
Our Calla’s Kitty Kingdom collaboration was recently featured on PHL17’s Positively Philly, where we talked about the new adoption space, the cats it will support and why each organization wanted to be part of it. I’m so grateful to the Positively Philly team for giving us the opportunity to share the story with viewers across Greater Philadelphia.

What Is Calla’s Kitty Kingdom?
Calla’s Kitty Kingdom is a dedicated adoption space located inside Maddie’s Castle at 178 Bridge Street in downtown Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. The collaboration brings together three women-led local organizations, each contributing something different:
Calla’s Critter Rescue brings the adoptable cats and provides the rescue work, care and support they need while they wait for homes.
Maddie’s Castle provides a welcoming, public-facing space where visitors can meet the cats and begin making a real connection with them.
BarkHop Studio creates professional portraits that help each cat stand out and reach more potential adopters.
Together, we are giving cats another way to be seen. An adoptable cat’s first introduction often happens through a photograph. Before someone meets that cat in person, they may first see a face while scrolling online or visiting a rescue page. A strong portrait can make someone pause, take a closer look and want to learn more. It cannot tell the cat’s entire story, but it can open the door.
Why Professional Adoption Photography Matters
I have seen the difference a thoughtful portrait can make for an animal who has been waiting for a home.
Rescue photography is not about making every cat look or behave the same way. It is about creating an image that helps someone notice the individual in front of the camera. The confident cat. The curious kitten. The shy cat who needs patience. The cat whose expression makes the right person stop scrolling.
That is my role in Calla’s Kitty Kingdom. I will photograph the adoptable cats so Calla’s Critter Rescue has polished, engaging images to share in adoption listings, on social media and throughout its outreach.
Calla’s team knows the cats and what they need. Maddie’s Castle gives them a place to meet people in the heart of Phoenixville. I help create the introduction.
The PHL17 interview gave us the chance to explain how those pieces work together and why community partnerships like this can have such an impact. It is not one organization trying to do everything. It is each of us using what we do best to support the same goal: helping more cats find the people who have been looking for them.
A New Space for Cat Photography in Frazer
This collaboration also comes at an exciting time for BarkHop Studio.
BarkHop is expanding with a second Chester County studio in Frazer, near Malvern and convenient to pet parents throughout the Main Line. The new studio will welcome both dogs and cats, giving families another location for the simple, expressive studio portraits BarkHop is known for.
When I first started photographing pets, much of my work centered on dogs. Adding more cat photography feels like a natural and meaningful next step. Cats deserve to be photographed with the same patience, creativity and attention given to every dog who comes through my studio.
The Frazer location will make BarkHop sessions more accessible to families in Malvern, Paoli, King of Prussia and communities across the Main Line and Greater Philadelphia area. It will also place me closer to the rescue partners and small businesses that make this region’s pet community so special. The studio is opening soon, and I cannot wait to share more of the space and begin welcoming its first dogs, cats and people.
Three Women, One Shared Goal
Calla’s Kitty Kingdom is a physical space, but it represents something larger.
It shows what can happen when three women, a rescue, a local pet business and a photographer come together around a shared purpose. Calla’s Critter Rescue can continue focusing on saving and caring for cats. Maddie’s Castle can connect those cats with the Phoenixville community. BarkHop Studio can give each one a portrait that helps them reach beyond the room.
For me, this is exactly the kind of work I want BarkHop Studio to be part of. Beautiful photographs matter, but so does what those photographs can do. In this case, they can give an adoptable cat one more chance to be noticed.
I hope you will watch our Positively Philly interview, follow all three organizations and visit Calla’s Kitty Kingdom after it opens. You might stop in simply to meet the cats. You might share one of their portraits. Or you might meet the cat who belongs in your family.
