There’s something deeply special about photographing senior dogs.
They’ve been by our side through every season of life—quiet mornings, chaotic evenings, heartbreaks, and small everyday joys. They know our routines better than we do. And for so many of us, it’s hard to imagine life without them padding around beside us.
If you’re a dog parent in Chester County or the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs, and you're in the thick of those tender, golden years with your pup, you know exactly what I mean.
Senior dogs are part of the rhythm of home:
– The sound of their nails tapping down the hallway
– Tumbleweeds of fur drifting across the hardwood
– Water bowl puddles trailing across the kitchen
– Favorites destuffed toys tucked under the couch
– Their warm body curled against yours at the end of the day
– A woof at the door, like clockwork
They don’t just live with us. They shape the way we live.
Photographing senior dogs never feels like just another session. It feels like being invited into something sacred. A soft kind of celebration. Sometimes there are tears. Sometimes there’s laughter. Always—there’s love.
I’ve come to see these photos as little visual time capsules. Not just for the dogs, but for the people who love them. Because even when they’re gone, they’re never really gone. They stay with us—in the worn-out leash by the door, the sound of their name on our lips, and the memories we carry like a favorite squeaky toy.
And that’s what I try to capture in each portrait.
